Health Communication Pieces

This page is dedicated to my Health Communication work. Featured on this page are my video voice-over presentation about infant and toddler drowning prevention and my brief report for the parents of children diagnosed with a certain type of cancer-acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Infant and Toddler Drowning Prevention

This video is a summary of the research I gathered about infant and toddler drowning prevention for my Foundations of Injury Prevention class. This piece exemplifies my ability to:

  • Collect peer-reviewed research from electronic databases
  • Navigate the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention WISQARS mortality data tables
  • Present complex health information in easily understood terms for a general audience
  • Create a video voice-over presentation

By creating this video I gained the skills to confidently create video voice-over powerpoint presentations. I also gained further insight on how to keep infants and toddlers safe from drowning. This knowledge is valuable for both my current and future career path as a health educator.

My Child has ALL. What Now?

This brief report is a summary of research related to a cancer diagnosis in children. This report was created to help parents of children recently diagnosed with cancer cope with this new change in their lives. This report was created for a Professional Writing class, but it is also part of other research I have performed regarding childhood cancer. To view the brief report please click the above image.

This report showcases my ability to:

  • Find electronic peer-reviewed research articles and scientific information
  • Translate complex health information into easily understood terms for a general audience
  • Create a colorful and meaningful report to assist families in a crisis

Completing this report allowed me to help other parents understand what it means for their child to have cancer. As a childhood cancer survivor myself, this report was my way of helping other families understand and have a peace of mind during such a life-altering time.
