Childhood Cancer STAR ACT

This policy memo is a summary of the importance of the Childhood Cancer STAR Act being passed by Congress. The Childhood Cancer STAR Act entailed funds for creating a childhood cancer survivorship base and more research regarding the late effects of childhood cancer treatments. It is written with my district representative in the House of Representatives, the Honorable Henry C. Hank Johnson Jr. as the recipient. The memo itself was written for my Healthcare Policy and Law Class; however, it relates to other research I have done regarding childhood cancer research and awareness. This piece exemplifies my ability to:

  • Appropriately address a member of Congress
  • Highlight important aspects of a Congressional Act in general terms
  • Emphasize the importance of a Congressional Act in relation to work a congress member has done

By completing this policy memo I feel more confident in addressing important health issues with my representatives and senators. I hope to increase congressional awareness regarding the importance of research and care for children with cancer and childhood cancer survivors.
