Community Service Work and Testimonials

This page is a culmination of work I have done for Compassionate Care Hospice and St. Mary’s Healthcare in Athens, GA.

Compassionate Care Hospice Remembering Book Program

These booklets are examples of the remembering booklets I created with input from the hospice bereavement coordinator and volunteer coordinator. I created these booklets based off of one small booklet the bereavement coordinator gave to young children of hospice patients, specifically grandchildren to remember their grandmother. This original booklet gave me the idea to create and design remembering booklets for children of all hospice patients of all ages including young children and teens. The bereavement coordinator and volunteer coordinator liked my designs and idea so much that they sent my idea and work to the corporate Compassionate Care Hospice office.

My idea for hospice books for children and teens of all ages and my designs are now incorporated at all Compassionate Care Hospice locations across the nation.  Please click on the images below to view two of the remembering books I made. The left image is a remembering booklet for teens who have lost their mother and the right is a remembering booklet for children that have lost a grandfather.

These booklets demonstrate my ability to:

  • Understand the process of grieving and coping with the loss of a loved one
  • Understand how to effectively and empathetically communicate with a child or adolescent that has lost a loved one
  •  Create culturally appropriate graphics for the use of children and adolescents of various backgrounds

Creating these booklets and this remembering booklet program helped me better understand the grieving process in both my own and the lives of others.

St. Mary’s Healthcare Diabetes Community Resource Handout

This handout (linked here) is a summary of diabetes education and maintenance resources for patients with diabetes receiving healthcare services from St. Mary’s Healthcare. St. Mary’s Healthcare is a non-profit healthcare organization three hospitals, a home health service, rehab services, and other facilities including a wellness center and hospice services. Their main office and hospital are located in Athens, GA.

This pamphlet demonstrates my ability to:

  • Use Microsoft Publisher to create detailed work
  • Assess a community for resources regarding a specific health-related need
  • Gather information about community health resources
  • Create an easy to understand and accessible pamphlet of community resources

By creating this pamphlet I learned more about the Athens area and surrounding community resources for people with diabetes. I hope to utilize the skills and abilities I learned and utilized from creating this pamphlet in future health promotion work.
